Why do you travel and photograph your journeys?

The main reason I decided to learn photography was to capture memories of my experiences around the world while I traveled when I started my blog back in 2015.
I managed to do that for 4 years while I traveled to 40 countries across 5 continents.
We only live once. It’s up to you to design the life that you want and create the memories that you wish to remember in your old days.
Hence the motto of my blog: “Life is short, create memories”

What is your favourite thing or item to photograph

I really enjoy travel photography. It really forces me to pay attention to details wherever I go. I specialized in urban for a few years. Why?
1. It encourages me to go explore the city I live in as an ex-pat and get to know new neighborhoods.
2. urban or street photography, is all about capturing a unique moment or location in a city that will speak to the locals. i.e. capturing little artifacts only locals will know or a famous location with no one in it although it can be busy all day. It is all about surprising the viewer by showing a unique perspective on a location they’ve walked by thousands of times.

What’s your go-to travel hack?

Bring a multi-plug extension lead in your bag to charge all your gear at the same time. But also, less is more. I found that the less gear I carry with me during my travels, the more creative I am. Nowadays I carry my Sony a6300 with the 18-105mm G master lens and my phone Huawei P40 pro to capture on the go.

Got any gear you can’t travel without?

My iPad and my 2 To SSD card to transfer, back up all my photos and edit them on the go.

What destination are you eager to go back to?

Japan. I stayed there for 3 weeks back in 2016 and truly fell in love with this country. I visited Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. But back then, I just got started with landscape photography. I am eager to go back someday to be able to capture the beautiful nature and landmarks this country has to offer.

How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?

As I mentioned, less is more. I just pack the most necessary gear I need and this usually fits in a sling bag. Then, always be cautious of your surroundings and dress like a local. That’s actually the first thing I do when I arrive in a country, go to a shopping mall or local market and adopt the local dress code to look as less like a tourist as possible.

What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local one?

Use your 2 feet! The best way to experience a destination in my opinion is just to get lost on the streets and observe what locals do. Where do they eat, how do they dress, how do they behave, what do they do. Also do not hesitate to have a conversation with a local. You got the best tool to break the ice, your camera. Offer to take their portrait and start a discussion. You never know where this conversation would lead you which is the beauty of traveling in my opinion.

What’s your favourite word in another language?

“Sawadika” it means hello in Thai but I love the way they say it! Always makes me smile.

When and where are you next travelling?

Probably Paris this Winter to go visit the family and friends. And it is always a great destination for urban photography. I just love browsing the streets of Paris.
